6. Turning your negative self talk into Donald Duck
You may get a good laugh instead of stress!
7. Changing the quality of someone else’s talk
Imagine that a person talking to you inside your internal experience or in the outside world suddenly, in your mind’s eye, starts speaking in slow motion? Or starts sounding like Kermit the frog?
8. Firing a positive anchor
Anchoring is taught in most NLP courses. In the case of stress, a self anchor may provide a solution. This requires some work before the stressful moment though, instead of doing it on the spot. The anchor can be set in multiple ways using NLP, one of which I will explain here. Find an activity that truly relaxes you, like taking a bath. When you are at your right before and into your peak of relaxation, put your middle finger and your thumb together and push them together hard while saying the word “relax” in your mind. When you are done with the relaxing activity, then go about your normal day. Test this anchor by putting your middle finger and your thumb together while saying “relax” in your mind, and see if you can get that relaxing feeling back. To have this anchor available to you to fire at any given time will not only be helpful during a stressful event, but any time you wish to relax.
9. Playing a funny song in your mind
When you are in a stressful event, simply start playing, for instance, the theme song of The Muppet Show inside your mind. You have other options than stress, wouldn’t you agree?
10. Recoding a memory using a funny song
A slight variation to the above is when you have a memory of a recurring thought that gives you stress. Simply recall the memory or bring up the thought, and override it with a funny song.
There are many more ways to reduce stress and other unresourceful feelings using NLP.
