Perceptual Positions
Perceptual positions are a powerful tool in the application of NLP coaching.
The second perceptual position for instance is best signified by the the statement: “You don’t know unless you have walked a mile in someone else’s shoes.” A person can make powerful realizations and create inner shifts by looking at a given situation from another perspective.
Let the client pick a situation where for instance an argument took place.
First perceptual position (self): looking at a given situation from your own viewpoint. See, feel, hear, believe and think what you would in a given situation. This is in a sense a fully associated position.
Second perceptual position (other): looking at a given situation from someone else’s point of view. As if you step in to their shoes, and look through their eyes. See, feel, hear, believe and think what he/she would in a given situation.
Third perceptual position (observer): looking at a given situation from an observers’ position. As if you are a third party, watching yourself and the other person.
Looking at a given situation from different perceptual positions, may completely change the way your clients thinks or feels about it.
There are more nuances to the perceptual positions, techniques, and ways of using the perceptual positions which we teach in our NLP Practitioner / Business Coaching and NLP Master Practitioner / Life Coaching / Weight Loss Coaching.
