NLP Definition by Richard Bandler
Richard Bandler, what is his definition of NLP?
To each person NLP is something different, this is why there are so many definitions to NLP. But what does the original co-creator to NLP think NLP is?
I tried to dig up a few quotes:
“The Study of the Structure of Subjective Experience and what can be calculated from it.”
- NLP Definition by Richard Bandler
“…an attitude and a methodology which leaves behind a trail of techniques.”
- NLP Definition by Richard Bandler
“The brain is an archival system, not a rewrite system. It doesn’t have an erase function, so you don’t get to rewrite your past. What you have to do is teach the brain to go in a new direction - “here” instead of “there. ” The Challenge of NLP is to enable people to take control of their cognitive evolution and to realize that their internal pictures, voices and feelings belong to them and they can manipulate them the same way they use their fingers to turn a doorknob.”
- “Magic in Action“, Richard Bandler.
“Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a word that I made up to avoid having to be specialized in one field or another. (…) One of the things that NLP represents is a way of looking at human learning. (…) Basically we’re developing ways to teach people how to use their own brains.”
- Using Your Brain for a Change, Definition Richard Bandler.
“I want you to find out how you can learn to change your own experience, and get some control over what happens in your brain. Most people are prisoners of their own brains. It’s as if they are chained to the last seat of the bus and someone else is driving. I want you to learn how to drive your own bus. If you don’t give your brain a little direction, either it will just run randomly on its own, or other people will find ways to run it for you -and they may not always have your best interests in mind. Even if they do, they may get it wrong!”
- Using Your Brain for a Change , Definition Richard Bandler.
“Neuro-Linguistic Programming™ (NLP™) is defined as the study of the structure of subjective experience and what can be calculated from that and is predicated upon the belief that all behavior has structure….Neuro-Linguistic Programming™ was specifically created in order to allow us to do magic by creating new ways of understanding how verbal and non-verbal communication affect the human brain. As such it presents us all with the opportunity to not only communicate better with others, but also learn how to gain more control over what we considered to be automatic functions of our own neurology.”
- It can not be confirmed that this definition came from Richard Bandler, but it is featured on his institutes website.
There are undoubtedly more definitions available by Richard Bandler, if you like me to add them to the list, please comment. Please do add the source of the definition by Richard Bandler.
