Derren Brown in this movie, uses a multitude of techniques generally, a lot of which NLP.

Derren Brown starts off asking the girl if she has a simple a belief that she is not certain off. He tries to get as much information as he can about this “not certain” picture. Where is located, what does it look like?  He then asks her something of what she is certain off. He tries to get as much information as he can about this “certain” picture, is it clear, where is it located?  He then maps across. The uncertain picture to match the submodalities of the certain picture. It is a trick in utilizing how the brain codes information. Applying certain software coding, to uncertain beliefs, in this case so to speak.

He also uses anchoring in this example. He anchors her to a specific state, by briefly touching her, saying a certain word, or a gesture.

Pay very close attention the persuasive hypnotic language he uses.

Keep in mind that Derren brown is not all NLP, hypnotic language, or (covert) hypnosis. He is an illusionist at the same time, and is very good at mental trickery. Some illusionists fancy going on stage and letting a train disappear, others like Derren are more subtle. Yet it does require the knowledge of NLP.

In this case, it is nice to see him do some classic NLP. Anchoring and mapping across.

Unfortunately on youtube this article is tagged as being the SWISH pattern. This is not so much about a swish pattern. Though the swish pattern uses submodalities as well. This movie is really about mapping across submodalities.
