Byron Katie Questions

Byron Katie questions or enquiry are designed to loosen your client emotional flexibility. Though not traditional NLP, and borrowed from cognititive psychology, the Byron Katie questions are excellent ones to ask your client.

Your client may from time to time come with a perspective which is part of their model of the world. This perspective may not be very useful for their well being in the frame they are using it.

Byron Katie whom wrote the fantastic book “Loving What Is” designed a surprisingly simple yet effective set of questions to help people overcome a range of emotions.

When your client presents a persective you ask:

1. Is it true?
Most clients will whole heartedly say yes.

2. Can you really know that it’s true?
Client starts to question him/herself, on how true their prespective actually is. The validity of their statement is often not considered to its fullest.

3. How do you react when you think that thought/tell yourself that story?
Now the client starts thinking about the consequences of this perspective. This frame can be very upsetting, and dammaging to his/her life. Client considers the usefulness of this perspective.

4. Who would you be without that thought/story?
This is where your client needs to move outside of the limitation of their perspective. People will start to get ready to let go of it.

A host of NLP techniques can then be applied (parts work, reframing etc.)

This level of training can best be learned for application by taking both NLP Practitioner + Master Practitioner training included with applications for life coaching.
